2018 Kiwanis Citizen of the Year
Sergeant Derek Rosales has been awarded the 2018 Kiwanis Citizen of the Year. He was recognized for his tireless efforts to teach and influence the children of our city in a positive manner. Derek has been a dedicated coach and mentor with the Mesa County Junior Football Association for over 15 years. Coaching the Super Junior Gators, he emphasizes life lessons, including high education standards, the importance of community, integrity, and hard work. In 2017, he coached the team to the Super Bowl Championship. Derek is also a 20 year police veteran for the Grand Junction Police Department and actively participating in children’s events such as Shop With A Cop.

Orville & Frances Boge Scholarship

Rick presented the Orville and Frances Boge Scholarship of $5,500 to Coach Martin and Brian to be used by the Colorado Mesa University Athletic Department. Orville was President of our club in 1974 and a member for over 40 years. He was also our club secretary for over 30 years. Orville’s “day job” was teaching Chemistry at CMU.
